The
North Atlantic Ocean has been a place of much human drama over the past 400
years - played out in large part by the fishing fleets of Gloucester,
Massachusetts.
The vessels themselves were possessed of great
power, speed, and beauty of design. The men were intrepid as they set
out in their dories to tend trawl lines day in and day out in all but the most
forbidding of weather conditions.
In this series of paintings I have portrayed various aspects of the North
Atlantic fishing as it was performed in the late 19th Century. They
are notable for their accuracy of detail - gathered from research and first
hand accounts.
